Building Coalitions: A Focus on Resiliency and Partnerships

The University of Louisville started building a coalition focused on reducing high risk alcohol and substance use early in 2007. After a year of typical start-up barriers and small success, the administration supported re-dedicating the efforts of the coalition to align with the priorities and strategic plan of the University. After hiring a Coordinator and re-defined by it's new name, in a relatively short period of time the BRICC Coalition has created a high level of visibility, buy-in and environmental change on campus. This presentation will discuss the challenging work of engaging and maintaining momentum with coalition partners while simultaneously engaged in the strategic planning process that guides the coalition workgroups by keeping the "big picture" in focus, informed by the socio-ecological framework of health promotion.
