APIS: A Resource Link Funded by NIAAA

Law Enforcement

Beyond the parents of youth, our dedicated law enforcement officials are often the font-line defense against underage drinking. It is essential that we provide our law enforcement agencies with the resources and tools that they need to effectively monitor and enforce compliance with underage drinking laws. In fact, the National Academy of Sciences study, Reducing Underage Drinking: A Collective Responsibility, noted, “The effectiveness of laws to restrict access to alcohol by youths can be increased by closing gaps in coverage, promoting compliance, and strengthening enforcement.”

IIAA continues to work with Congress in an effort to provide these needed tools to law enforcement officers in our communities and states. The International Institute is committed to developing and expanding a working partnership with law enforcement officials nationwide. This partnership recognizes the vital role that local law enforcement officers play in this ongoing battle. By keeping this issue illustrated before leaders in Congress, IIAA hopes to ensure that local and state law enforcement agencies have the full support of their elected officials in preventing underage drinking.
